SEAMED: Strengthening Education, Applied Research, and Marine Development in West - Balkans
The overall goal of this regional-consortium based project is to strengthen the West Balkan research institutions and their applied research, but also to increase the sustainability of both research institutions and seafood industry through education, knowledge and technology transfer. The project covers fishery, harvesting and processing areas. Programme in Higher Education, Research and Development in the Western Balkans (HERD Maritime) finances the SEAMED project which is led and coordinated by SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture from Norway. The project partners are the following educational institutions from Balkan: Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Agricultural University of Tirana (Albania); Faculty of Agriculture of Food Science, University of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina); Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary, University of Prishtina (Kosovo) and Institute of Marine Biology, University of Montenegro (Montenegro).
Industrial representatives take part as an advisory group of the project. Most active industrial partners are: Mare Adriatik – fisheries and processing of fish (Albania); fish farms: NORFISH-BLAGAJ (Bosnia- Hertzegovina), KARAKA (Bosnia- Hertzegovina) and Trofta (Kosovo), AHILEAS(Montenegro) smoked fish products production company and Department of Fisheries and Muscle Services (Albania) – farming and processing of shellfish (muscles).
